PW Hat & Mitten Drive:  We will be collecting hats, gloves, and mittens for local Head Start children again this year.  The children are pre-Kindergarten age, so smaller sizes are needed.  There are nearly 400 boys and girls in the Raleigh County Head Start program.
Please bring your donated items to the church between now through early December.

Parlor Display - Twin sisters, Kate and Julie Sniadowski, will be displaying their artwork in the parlor during December.  They are 10th graders at WWHS.

Comunity Advent Services - All services are at noon followed by a light lunch ($3 donation).  Dec. 3rd St. Frances; Dec. 10 Heart of God Ministries; Dec. 17 Beckley Presbyterian

"Music After the Parade" - You are invited to enjoy holiday music at the Beckley Presbyterian Church following the Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 6th.  Special Christmas music presented by Park Middle School, Pikeview H S, and Beckley Presbyterian Church Adult, Children and Handbell Choirs. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided.  203 S Kanawha Street, Beckley WV (across from Soldiers Memorial Bldg)

5th Sundays - Favorite Hymn Time:  In months where there are five Sundays, we will have a "Favorite Hymn Time" on that 5th Sunday to replace the instrumental prelude.  Just tell us what your favorite hymn is and we'll sing a verse or two.  You can even email it ahead of time to Theresa McCoy at teresamccoy@hotmail.com .  Those Sundays are August 31st, November 30th, March 29th, and May 31st.

Prayer Shawl Ministry:  If you love knitting or crocheting and have a compassion for others, we invite you to join our new Prayer Shawl Ministry each week on Fridays in the Parlor, 10:30 AM.  In making and distributing shawls, we are providing a much needed hug for someone with a special need.    The Ministry Team has very simple patterns and will teach beginners or those who need a refresher.  You will also learn about suitable yarns and meaningful colors.

Contempory Alternative Worship Services:  These events at BPC are held on the third Sunday evening of each month, 7:00-8:00pm, on the lower level of the Educational Building in the former Montessori room.  You can access this room from the back parking lot, first door on left.  Come and enjoy our Praise Team, lots of praise music, scripture, prayer, and a sermon/skit.

Wednesday Night Bible Study:  This class begins at 6:45 in Friendship Hall each Wednesday evening following supper at 6:00 (optional).  They are beginning a new study on the book of Hebrews, led by Rev. Pratt.  All lessons are published on our website (click here).  Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

Christmas Poinsettias:  It is time to order Poinsettias for the upcoming Advent Season.  They will be displayed in the sanctuary starting December 7th and taken down by the end of the month.  Orders may be placed by picking up an order form from the church narthex or contacting the church office.  Deadline to place orders is December 1st.  Prices are the same as last year...

New Members
     The latest new members are...
Beth and Ryan Groth:  Beth and Ryan Groth moved to Beckley in August 2007 from Johnson City, Tennessee, where they had attended a Presbyterian church in the downtown area.  They found Beckley Presbyterian via online search.  Our downtown location was appealing to them and convenient to their home here near Park Middle School.
Ryan is studying at MSU to be a Physician's Assistant, and Beth is a social worker for DHHR.  In their spare time, Ryan enjoys kayaking the New and Gauley Rivers, and Beth likes hiking and other outdoor activities.  They are expecting their first child in late October.

Missionaries:  This year BPC is supporting a new missionary couple, Tim & Gloria Wheeler in Honduras.  See the Mission/Outreach page for photo and info as well as a PCUSA page.  This is in addition to the continued support of the Morgan's in Bangladesh.

Pipe Line:  New Deadline: The weekly deadline for submitting any news you want printed in the Pipe Line is 5:00 PM on Mondays

Thanks:
Banners:  We offer gratitude to all those who helped in making the All Saints Banners this year:  Harriet Jones, Jane Beaver, Peggy Debnam, Ann Harkins, Kay Hoover, and Helen Trader.  Thanks also to Scott Worley for making new dowel rods and helping to cut out the letters.

Youth:
Ronald MacDonald Pop-Tab Collection:  The children of the church have been collecting pop can tabs to help support a very worthwhile cause - Ronald MacDonald Houses. You can read about this project by visiting the MacDonald website.

Activity Schedule:  See Youth Page.

Youth Fundraising:
New> Computer Searches:  You can help the youth raise money for future mission trips by using the "Good Search" search engine at www.goodsearch.com when searching for something online.  Good Search shares its advertising profits with non-profit organizations like churches, and BPC is now registered with them.  Bring up the page and name Beckley Presbyterian Church as the charity you are using.  Everytime you do that, the church youth get a small donation.

Blue Roo Consignment:  As you begin spring cleaning, please consider donating items to the Blue Roo Consignment Shop on South Heber Street to help raise money for your youth mission trips.  The youth account is #4546. They will receive 40% on clothing and 60% on other items such as books, movies, pictures, CDs, formal wear, baby needs, etc.  See the PipeLine for more specific directions on how to donate.

Kroger Gift Cards:  The youth want to thank everyone who has purchased and is using the Kroger Card for food and gas, which helps to raise money for their mission trips.  Since April 2005, the income from the cards has been $1,861.50.  This is great - keep buying and spending!  Cards are available from the Church Office for $10.00, the amount already credited to each card.
Information about this Kroger Gift Card Fundraising Program  is at the bottom of the page.
